How Rema Stole Wizkid's Strategy on His Way To Fame

On March 22nd 2019, Don Jazzy signed Rema to Mavin records first imprint “Jonzing World”. The talented youngster has showcased his talent to the African music scene and is likened to Wizkid by many.

Rema broke several records on streaming platforms and is currently the most streamed teenage act in Nigeria. At 19, Rema has released three amazing project, claiming the number spot on apple music, audiomack and recently bagged a spot on President Obama’s Summer Playlist 2019.

Mavin records/Jonzing World act Rema seems to have a lot of things in common with the Starboy Entertainment boss Wizkid.

Wizkid started off his career with his hit single “Holla at Your Boy” off his Superstar album. The “Ojuelegba” crooner. Just like Rema, Wizkid was the most talked about act in 2010 winning the Headies Award Next Rated Category in 2011.

Here is how Rema stole Wizkid’s Strategy on his way to fame.

  1. Rema came with unique sounds (Indian Flavoured Afro Beat) just like Wizkid. In 2010, “Holla at your boy” by Wizkid was an unfamiliar sound. Starboy literally created a new wave of sound to capture the fancy of the Nigerian market.
  2. Just like Wizkid, Rema started off quite early bagging his first headies award nomination at the age of 19. Rema and Wizkid got nominated for Headies Award with their first singles “Dumebi” and “Holla at your boy” respectively.
  3. While many of us have lost touch with our childhood days, Rema still sticks to his inner child just like Wizkid. He’s known to carry water guns in music videos and performances.
  4. Rema took to branding early with his signature mask. He created his own niche and cemented his looks in the industry with his masks.
